2 IAS suspended for adoring Gandhis
LUCKNOW: Glorification of Nehru-Gandhi family in a book entitled 'Sultanpur - Kal aur Aaj' proved costly for four officers of the state, including two IAS officers, and an officer of the Provincial Civil Service.
Taking a strong view of the cooperation extended by these officers in compilation of the aforementioned book by the regional publicity officer of Sultanpur, the state government on Thursday placed all the four officers under suspension.

Those suspended include divisional commissioner, Faizabad, Venkateshwarlu, district magistrate and chief development officer of Sultanpur Sanjay Kumar and Ishtdev Prasad and assistant director, information, PK Singh.
The government maintains that while on hand the contribution of the BSP government in development of the district has been totally ignored in the book, on the other hand, the role of a political party (read the Congress) has been eulogised in such a way as if it alone had the credit of development of the district.
The state government was also of the view that the book in question was aimed at not only at improving the image of a particular party but also an attempt to increase its popularity.
Highly critical of the role of civil servants in the compilation of the book, the state government was of the view that the messages of the commissioner, the DM and the CDO published in the book established beyond doubt that these officers had their consent in one-sided and misleading text of the book. Calling it a clear case of violation of service conduct rules, the state government took the punitive action.
In this book the contribution of late prime ministers Pt Jahawar Lal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and the Amethi MP Rahul Gandhi in development of Sultanpur has been enumerated.
For example, "In the Nehru era, the foundation of integrated development of the nation was laid." At another place, the book says: "Indira Gandhi carried forward the vision of Nehru and coined the slogan 'Garibi Hatao'."
